Close but no cigar for City

Heatherton 3

SPRINGVALE City, third in State League 3 south-east, came agonisingly close to taking the points from second-placed Heatherton United on Saturday.

City trailed 2-1 at half-time and looked as if it might have the firepower to close the gap in the second half.

But Heatherton, which has already secured promotion, took its chances well. Adis Lolic and Ivan Susnjar scored City's goals.

This week City meets Berwick and, with the chance that three teams will be promoted, has everything to play for.

Brighton 4

Dandenong City1

IF the ladder positions were anything to go by, Dandenong City should have had the points in the bag from this Provisional League 3 south-east game.

But while Brighton, ninth, took all its chances, City, fourth with a chance of being third, did not.

"It was a shocker," coach Bill Matotek said afterwards.

Dandenong will look to resurrect its fortunes when it meets Uni of Melbourne at the Frank Holohan Reserve on Saturday at 3pm.

Northcote City 2

South Springvale 1

A STRIKE from Chris Andronicou was not enough to give South Springvale the points in a tough fixture against State League 2 south-east ladder leader Northcote City at John Cain Park on Saturday afternoon.

With a home game against Diamond Valley and an away clash with Doncaster Rovers, South hopes to finish seventh on the ladder.

Endeavour Hills 0

Bayside Argonauts 6

WITH a team devastated by injury, suspension and sickness, the Hills were no match for Bayside in their Provisional League 3 south-east encounter.

The return of leading scorer Nic Robinson to the US, where he is continuing his studies, has not helped either.

Bayside made the most of the opportunity and led 5-0 at half-time, its wingers giving the home side a hard time.

It looks now as if Endeavour will finish mid-table with an away game against Noble Park this Saturday and Beaumaris at home in the final game of the season.
